Blackie my rescue cat has become one of my greatest teachers. He has not been with me long, only a few months but I can’t imagine life without him. He came to me as a 12 year old who had been in a rescue shelter twice. He was not in great shape when I first saw him. In the first two weeks he had 10 teeth removed and extensive health issues needed to be resolved. One of the first things I introduced was of course a Reiki regime.
One of the ways Blackie tells me he needs a Reiki session is he runs in front of me and throws himself down rolls on his back and opens his paws wide. This morning I was busy, I had a lot I needed to get done in a short time and he needed Reiki. So without much thinking about it, I sat down cross-legged on the floor and started offering him Reiki. He did not settle down, he got up and was tapping my leg with his paw, rubbing his head against my leg and then it hit me; the precept Be Honest In Your Way and Being. This precept showed me I was not being honest in my way as a Reiki practitioner, I did not give the Reiki session my full attention so my intention was not true to my way. I was not being honest with my Being as I was not in a good Reiki space. Again my beloved cat Blackie taught me a very good lesson. When I realized this I changed my attitude and focused my intention and got into a good meditative state and Blackie responded likewise, he laid himself down with his body touching my leg and went to sleep. Not only did he receive a Reiki healing but so did I. I kept this precept in my heart for the rest of the day. I am grateful for the precepts and I am grateful for this lesson my cat taught me on how to be honest in my way and Being.
