Being ‘Present’ with Binky

Being Present

I have been very blessed to have been able to spend 5 days in Kathleen Prasad’s presence; her energy is so serene and grounded. I attended the 3 day workshop ‘Everything Animal Reiki’ and also the ‘Equine workshop’ at the beautiful Remus Horse Sanctuary in Essex UK. It was the most incredible experience, where I too was able to truly heal myself and to let go of some of my own issues. This was definitely an unexpected bonus and brought into my life much peace. Each time I have attended Kathleen’s class, I have always learnt something new. Each time I have learnt something that has strengthened my own Animal Reiki Practice. This time I learnt the lesson about ‘being present’.

Being ‘present’ seems such an easy thing to do but actually our brains are hot wired to process lots of information and often find it very difficult to let go of thoughts of the hustle and bustle of the day. Being ‘present’ means giving 110% of your very being by creating the perfect Reiki space. It means that you do not judge and that you see the animal with your heart, so you can see their soul, their true essence. When faced with an animal that has been abused or who is very unwell, it is very easy to feel sorry, angry and bitter for them. But this bitterness and anger is based on our own emotions and does not serve the best interests of the animal. Your main purpose should be to hold a beautiful space of Reiki and to let go of any worries that you may have about the animal. In fact as a Reiki Animal practitioner we owe it to the animal to be completely ‘present’ for them and not to be caught up with any worries of our own making.

A student of Kathleen’s came to stay with me at my home and we had not met before, I was very nervous to have a stranger in my home but it turned out to be a truly wonderful experience. As we learnt Reiki together we formed a beautiful friendship, we really bonded and Aileen was such a huge support to me.  Aileen had a friend in Scotland who contacted her while she was at mine and she was very distressed about her rescued dog from Cyprus. Binky had been diagnosed with incurable cancer and was at the vets, she was very poorly, she needed as much Reiki as possible. It can be very hard to see beyond the situation when you know that this beautiful dog had recently escaped from a world of cruelty and heart ache and had now found her forever home. She had 9 months of total love and was so happy.  The card that had been dealt for her felt so unfair. It was certainly a difficult twist of Fate and understandably Aileen was very upset about this news. During Kathleen’s class in the morning we were able to offer a Reiki space for the animals, I felt so strongly that I wanted to offer a space for Binky. I had not met her before but seeing her picture, I instantly fell in love and I felt so connected to her soul. It was not about distant healing it was about ‘connection’ as in reality there is no distance when you do Reiki, there is only ‘oneness’.

During the morning, there was a lot of upset, as we had all just heard some terrible news that Remus was at ‘crisis’ point and may fold within a month. (Remus desperately needs funds, most importantly a sustainable income such as a monthly donation, we brain stormed many ideas to see how we could help) Please click on the link if you can help. http://www.remussanctuary.org/page/horse-welfare-crisis  After a morning of tears, Kathleen gave us a meditation exercise to practice, which was to help us to be ‘present’ with the animal we were working with. My mind was filled with so many thoughts from the morning, I could not quieten my mind. The more I thought about being ‘present’ the more my mind was filled with the conversations we had had. I turned my head and began to gaze out  towards the beautiful open fields, I suddenly felt such a deep sense of tranquillity and then thoughts of Binky came flooding in just like stunning rays of sunshine, I was totally ‘present’ with her and we had complete oneness and serenity. It was so perfect, I will never forget the connection that we had.

As I walked back to where everyone was sitting, I could see that Aileen was upset as she had just received a text to say that Binky had been put to sleep. In that one second, I knew that I had been able to offer Binky a perfect Reiki space so that she was able to pass peacefully over to the rainbow bridge. Binky taught me about how to be ‘present’ and allowed me to be part of her journey as she passed over to the other side. She gave me a gift, which I will always be eternally grateful for because she shared with me her most spiritual experience possible.
