Over the past couple of months I have been able to share the compassion of Reiki with animals and their guardians during the final stages of their life, each animal and situation was of course unique but they were all connected through their love for one another and the lives they had lived and shared together.
I am thankful that my heart was open as I remember very clearly how I felt at the passing of Lucky, our elderly rescue dog, who we were blessed to have in our lives for 6 amazing, truly happy and fun filled months and who made his journey over the bridge at the age of 14 in September 2013.
I am eternally grateful to Lucky for the laughter, joy and tears, he was a very special teacher giving me many gifts and enabling me to support other animals and their guardians with love and true understanding at the most difficult and personal times in their life when they too are faced with their animal’s passing.
Always keeping the Reiki precepts in my heart and mind enabled me to be in a very peaceful grounded place where I was able to hold the space, let go and trust Reiki, knowing each individual could choose to take exactly what they needed at that moment in time. For me, as a Reiki Practitioner, there is no greater gift and I feel blessed to have been part of each animal and their family’s journey at this time.
Reiki continues to support the family once the animal has passed and can ease the path to acceptance, self-compassion and peace, which I believe is what our animals truly want for us. Love is the legacy that continues on forever.
