I meditate with animals. That’s right. Every opportunity I get. Whenever I know I will be in the presence of animals, wild or domestic, I commit myself to being open to whatever experience arises and I set an intention that Reiki flows for the good of all.
One summer my husband and I were in Yellowstone Park when we came upon a buffalo traffic jam. If you have ever been there, you know what I mean. When the buffalo roam into the road there is no moving them until some rangers come along and gently redirect them with a truck. Everyone waits patiently for the most part, probably because they are just so stunning up close. A few people discard common sense and get out of their cars for a photo. I took the opportunity to meditate.
Being in the presence of buffalo energy was such an honor! All I wanted to do was share that beautiful space with them. Since I wasn’t driving, I closed my eyes, brought my hands together to center myself, and began strengthening and expanding my energy through the Reiki technique Joshin Kokyu Ho. I set the intention that Reiki would flow to any who were in need and then I let go of the outcome. I felt the strength of the herd—so very powerful—and a deep level of gratitude that I was in this place with these amazing beings. What good fortune! I continued in this healing space with my eyes softly focused on the herd.
Suddenly, I heard my husband quietly say my name. I looked up to see this handsome buffalo walking with purpose up to our car. I wasn’t entirely sure he would stop, but he did and we stared at each other for a bit, me continuing to stay grounded with my breath and this majestic buffalo still and watchful. Within a few minutes, the herd began to clear from the road. We were all on our way. And I was changed forever.

I too was stopped in Yellowstone National Park by a herd of Buffalo, parked in an RV we had rented in Missoula. We drove from Glacier national Park to Yellowstone, soaked in a Hot Spring at the entrance to the Park in The Boiling River then witnessed so much wildlife during our 4 days in Yellowstone. Connecting with Buffalo transformed me while I watched.
